The Highway Department maintains roads which are listed on the official Trousdale County Road List.  Since we are a metropolitan government we are responsible for repairing and maintaining the city and county roads listed on the official road list.  State roads and any other roads which are not listed on the County Commission approved Road List cannot be worked on by the Highway Department.  There are 191 miles on the current Road List.  This department is also responsible for the repair and maintenance of city and county bridges.

The Highway Department operates under the Tennessee County Uniform Highway Law.  This department is funded from the state fuel tax.  The Road Superintendent is the Chief Administrative Officer and is elected for a four (4) year term.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Highway Department install driveway connections?
Yes.  Call the office (615-374-2961) and let them know the location where the pipe needs to be installed.  You must have the location marked with stakes (20 feet apart).  The Highway Department will furnish the first 20 feet of pipe. If you want more than 20 feet you must purchase the additional footage and the bands.  We will do the installation as our schedule allows.
Who takes care of Highway 25 (McMurry Blvd), Highway 141 (Broadway and River Street) and Highway 260 (Browning Branch Road)?

Which roads in Trousdale County does the Highway Dept maintain?
We update the County Road List each year by Resolution.  The current County Road list can be found by clicking HERE
