More Information:

The principal duty of the Trousdale County Register of Deeds is to register (record) deeds and other instruments required or allowable by law. This includes items such as deeds, powers of attorney, mortgages, marriage settlements, plats, leases, wills, military discharges, and bankruptcy petitions.

The Register is responsible for collecting fees for registering all documents. The fees vary based on the type, length and conveyance of the document.

The Register is also responsible to collect taxes on the sale of real estate.

The Register also collects taxes on recordings which evidence a debt. This includes mortgages, conditional sales contracts and fixture filings under the Uniform Commercial Code.
